Brightness
Measured in candela per square metres. Never buy a screen with a level less than 200 and 250-300 is perfectly acceptable and the same as most computer monitors.
Certification
European and UK laws means electronic devices have to pass strict safety guidelines. The CE mark and RoHS are essential approvals and all Strawberry Digital Photo Frames have them
CE
The CE mark is a European and UK safety standard. See Certification.
Contrast Ratio
The contrast ratio is defined as the luminosity of the brightest and the darkest colour the screen is capable of producing. The higher the contrast the better but there are various methods of measurement for a screen so we make sure that whatever the contrast ratio we make sure that each screen is good enough to show excellent quality pictures,
JPEG
JPEG files are the most common and most cameras will take photos in this format. All Digital Picture frames can play JPEGs as a minimum.
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
A digital display that uses liquid crystal cells that change reflectivity in an applied electric field – it is a screen used I watches, computers and televisions – and of course Digital Photo Frames.
Max Photo Size
This is the maximum photo size the Digital Photo Frame can show. 2MB (see Megabyte) is usually more than enough for most photo’s.
MB (Megabytes)
A unit for measuring computer memory equal to one million (1,048,576) bytes. A standard photograph taken on most digital camera’s is about 1 or 2 Megabytes in size
Memory card
A memory card or flash memory card is a solid-state electronic flash memory data storage device used with digital cameras, handheld and laptop computers, telephones, music players, video game consoles, and other electronics.
Megapixel
A pixel is a single point in a graphic image. A megapixel is 1 million pixels, and is a term used for the number of pixels in an image. An uncompressed 1 megapixel image will be approximately equal to 1MB of memory.
MP3
A file containing a song or other audio data that is encoded using the MPEG standard used especially for digitally transmitting music over the Internet. Also referred to as MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3
MPEG
MPEG is a standardised term for compression formats of audio and visual data files. The most common MPEG formats are MPEG-1 (MP3 music files) and MPEG-2 (DVD quality audio visual files).
Picture Format
The types of picture files that can be played on Digital Photo Frames. See JPEG.
Picture Interval
The amount of time between changes in the photo being displayed on a Digital Picture Frame. The interval time can be adjusted by the user.
Picture Zoom
The number of times a Photo on the screen can be magnified
Pixel
See Megapixel
Play Mode
All Digital Photo Frames play a slideshow of photos and may have additional settings where you can repeat all the photos or just one from the memory card.
Rear Stand Positioning
Some stands on Digital Photo Frames can be adjusted so that the Digital Photo Frame can be positioned in landscape or portrait mode.
RoHS
A European and UK safety standard. See Certification.
Screen Resolution
An indictor of the number of pixels on a LCD screen expressed as number of pixels horizontally and vertically. A 800 x 600 screen would be 800 pixels horizontally by 600 pixels vertically (a total of 480,000 pixels.
Screen Size
This is the diagonal measurement of the screen and is the standard way of measuring screen size for all LCD devices
Screen Dimensions
The horizontal and vertical physical size of the screen
Screen Format
The ratio of the horizontal and vertical sizes. A 4:3 screen means for that in units, the screen if 4 units high by 3 units wide.
Screen Type
See LCD and TFT
TFT
TFT is an improved variant of LCD technology improving image stability over standard LCD.
Video Format
The types of video files that the Digital Photo Frames can show (See MPEG)
